The LI Trainer's Field Journal
Habitat is Key
We can let these lands return to the forest or we can step in and preserve a portion of the properties so that the maximum numbers of birds, animals and flora will continue to thrive. Carefully planned programs will maintain trees, shrubs, grasses and bare area where upland birds such as quail, pheasant, grouse and woodcock can survive; these programs can also maintain populations of songbirds that thrived in the tilled fields of the farm. Complete reversion to a mixed woodland may be fine for turkeys and deer but it has devastated other wildlife.
